VII. Hotel Servers and Back-end Management System

The hotel server and its back-end management system consist of two main parts:

1. Hotel Server System

    a. Video-on Demand (VOD)
    b. Value Added System
    c. Signage System
    d. Content Delivery Network (CDN)
    e. Digital Rights Management (DRM)
2. Back-end Management System

    a. Monitor System
    b. Redundant System
    c. Filesync System
    d. Remote System

Hotel Server System

The Hotel Server System consists of the five following sub-systems:

1. Video-on Demand (VOD)

  • Supports multilingual system interface
  • Supports language-specific programming content
  • Supports remote video uploading
  • Can set system to play advertising before video content is played
  • 2. Value Added System

  • Supports multilingual system interface
  • Supports schedule management to automatically list/delist shops and product advertising
  • 3. Signage System

  • 4-way display split
  • Supports advertising content such as pictures, videos and tickers
  • Supports schedule management to automatically list/delist shops and product advertising
  • 4. Content Delivery Network (CDN)

  • Deliver content over P2P network
  • Automatically acquire download content from multiple sources to solve on IDC bandwidth
  • Support dynamic IP so hotel does not need to pay for expensive fixed IP addresses
  • Can transfer data through NAT
  • 5. Digital Rights Management (DRM)

  • Protect video contents against piracy
  • Can specify licensing method for movies – e.g. by time or by No. of uses
  • Back-end Management System

The back-end management system consists of the four following sub-systems:

    1. Monitor System

    a) SrvMon program is installed on the Hotel server. This is used for the following:

  • Build up profile of services for regular scanning/monitoring
  • Regularly transmit heartbeat messages to the IDC server room to report on current internal status
  • If there is a service problem, immediately send an alert mail to the system administrator
  • b) IDCMon program is installed at the IDC server room. This is used for the following:

  • Automatically receive heartbeat messages and timestamp them in order to determine if the hotel is offline
  • When a new hotel system is initialized, the system will use the first heartbeat message sent to add the new system to the database watch list
  • If there is a problem with any hotel system, immediately send an alert mail to the system administrator
  • 2. Redundant System

  • Install DBWatcher program on two web servers. The system then generates VIP commands for the Master Server
  • When the Master Server malfunctions, the Slave Server immediately becomes VIP and takes over the Master Server services.
  • Once Master Server is repaired, VIP status can be manually switched back and the system is brought back online
  • 3. Filesync System

  • Installed on the Web and Media Server. It is used to monitor a source directory and if there are any changes, immediately synchronize it with the current destination directory
  • If the source is a network sharing folder, the system will automatically construct a network drive
  • Used to automatically upload content to each Media Server once CDN finishes sending data
  • 4. Remote System: Consists of 3 parts:

    a) KVM over IP

  • Supports manual switching of servers and sharing of displays, mice and keyboards
  • Can remotely change or control servers over the IP network from the CMOS level onwards.
  • Supports password logins to prevent unauthorized access
  • b) Power over IP

  • Can remotely control server power supplies over the IP network
  • Supports password logins to prevent unauthorized access
  • c) TeamViewer

  • Supports dynamic IPs for file transfers and remote server control/maintenance
  • Supports password logins to prevent unauthorized access
